About the Festival

Held every Memorial Day Weekend since 1992, the Prabhupada Festival is an annual event that celebrates and honors His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada – the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. This festival is unique in that it welcomes all followers, newcomers and interested persons to come together, learn about, and glorify Srila Prabhupada. The world famous Los Angeles Hare Krishna Temple, designated by Srila Prabhupada as ISKCON World Headquarters, is the location for this event and it is one of the largest festivals held there.

The Prabhupada Festival is a two-day event that includes special talks and remembrances from senior disciples, glorious kirtans, six sumptuous feasts, dynamic seminars, an annual boat festival, original artistic performances, a Ratha-yatra, and representatives from diverse devotional projects.

If you have never been to the Prabhupada Festival, we enthusiastically invite you to attend; and if you have come before, we warmly welcome you back. We look forward to seeing you. Srila Prabhupada Ki Jaya!

About Srila Prabhupada

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada appeared in this world in September 1896 in Calcutta, India. In 1922, he first met his spiritual master Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, a prominent religious scholar and the founder of sixty-four Gaudiya Mathas (Vedic institutes). Srila Prabhupada became his student and in 1933, his formally initiated disciple.

With only seven dollars and a trunk full of spiritual books aboard a trans-Atlantic cargo ship, Srila Prabhupada left India and arrived in New York City in September 1965 – he was 69 years old. Srila Prabhupada had a mission to propagate Krishna Consciousness and, thus, founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in July 1966.

Srila Prabhupada introduced the western world to the art and science of bhakti yoga and the sublime benefits of chanting the holy names of Krishna. In establishing a spiritual movement, Srila Prabhupada authored over eighty volumes of Vedic literature, had a following of over five thousand people, established 108 temples and founded a world-wide movement that continues to grow today.

Of the numerous gifts that Srila Prabhupada has given us, perhaps one of the most significant is his prolific literary translations and commentaries of Vedic knowledge. His writings constitute a library of Vedic philosophy that is highly respected by scholars for its authenticity and clarity. His most prominent works include: Bhagavad-gita As It Is, the 30-volume Srimad-Bhagavatam, and the 17-volume Sri Caitanya-caritamrita. His writings have been translated into 76 languages, with over a billion copies distributed worldwide. With great humility, never taking personal credit for his significant accomplishments, Srila Prabhupada once expressed, “My only credit is that I have strictly followed the order of my guru.”
